Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to enable students to gain the ability to evaluate works of art belonging to different civilizations and periods from aesthetic, cultural, social, and political perspectives by examining the fundamental concepts, methods, and historical development of Art History within their historical context.

Within the scope of the course, the historical conditions in which works of art emerged are examined, and the form, style, and meaning of works produced in different fields such as architecture, painting, sculpture, and decorative arts are analyzed. In addition, the course aims to develop students’ skills in visual analysis, comparative interpretation, and academic evaluation.
Course Content: Course topics include: the first artistic civilizations; Aegean Civilizations and nomadic cultures; the classical civilizations of the Mediterranean; the early forms of Christian Art; the rise of the West; Islamic Art; European art in the fifteenth century; European art in the sixteenth century; and famous works of art.
