Course Objectives: | This course provides an introduction to Shakespearean Drama, sonnets and Shakespearean Criticism. The course, first, aims to teach how to decipher the meaning in Shakespeare’s works placing emphasis on his use of metaphor, simile and imagery, as well as on social, historical, and cultural contexts of the texts. Second, in the light of major critical theories, Shakespeare’s drama will be studied through selected examples from his plays. Elizabethan literary conventions as well as the social and historical background of the period will be emphasized. |
