Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: Objective of the course is to help students comprehend the meaning and importance of National Struggle organized and executed by the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Ataturk in order to reach the modern civilizations.
Course Content: Contents of the course include; Basic Concepts, Ottoman Empire and Its Decline, Tanzimat and Constitutional Periods, Ideological Movements in the Final Period of Ottoman State, Tripoli War, Balkan Wars, First World War, Mundros Armistice and Occupations, Birth of National Struggle and National Organizations, Mustafa Kemal Pasha's Samsun Amasya Circular, National Congresses, Announcement of the National Assembly, Opening of the Grand National Assembly, Liberation War, Mudanya Armistice, Lausanne Peace Treaty.

Theoretical - Conceptual
1) Gains the definition of Revolution and the knowledge of understanding the reasons that prepared the Turkish revolution
2) Gains the ability to understand the efforts to save the Ottoman empire
3) Gains the ability to look holistic at Trablusgarp,1st and 2nd Balkan Wars
4) Gains a sense of thinking about the 1st World War and the collapse of the Ottoman State
5) Gains the ability to understand and think about the Mondros Armistice and the occupation of İzmir
6) Gains the ability to understand and to look holistic at the power created by Mustafa Kemal Pasha's departure to Samsun and beginning of the national struggle
7) Gains the awareness of the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and establishment of the new Turkish state and gets the delight of the sense of those.
8) Gains the ability to reach and understand the fronts of the National Struggle and the wars with the Armenians and the French on the East and South fronts

3) Have a thorough understanding and capability of analizing historical, social, cultural, economic and political backgrounds of different genres of English literature.
4) Have advanced knowledge of English language, its morphology and function in written and spoken forms, and capability of using it effectively in academic and professional environments.
5) Have theoretical and practical knowledge and ability required for the translation of various texts from English to Turkish and vice versa.
6) Have critical, creative and analytical thinking skills.
7) Develop a broad historical and cross-cultural perspective, and an unbiased and respectful attitude to both his/her own society, literature and culture and literatures of different cultures by studying English literature and culture.
