Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: The course ‘Space in Cinema’ aims to examine and discuss cinema's contribution to the perception and design of space through the interaction between cinema and space, focusing on spatial design, composition, vision, and aesthetic elements.
Course Content: Explaining spatial construction and representations of space in cinema within the context of the relationship between cinema and space.

Conducting scene and space analyses of films that emphasise space, developing evaluation criteria for these analyses.

Examining the spatial design, construction, vision and aesthetic dimensions of films and discussing their contributions to the perception of space.

Theoretical - Conceptual
1) Explains the fundamental theoretical approaches to the relationship between cinema and space. Theoretically evaluates the role of space in cinematic narrative and atmosphere. Interprets how space is represented in different film genres (science fiction, dystopia, avant-garde, etc.).
2) Analyzes the spatial structure of a film scene through imagery, lighting, framing, and movement. Describes the social, cultural, and technological implications of the spaces used in the film. Comparatively evaluates the use of space in selected film examples.

1) Ability to clearly communicate spatial analysis results through reports, presentations or oral expression.

1) They acquire the ability to learn, update, and deepen theoretical knowledge about the relationship between cinema and space. They can independently apply the knowledge acquired when analyzing new film examples. They can transfer spatial reading and cinematic analysis methods to different contexts. They monitor and develop their own academic development by taking critical feedback into account throughout the learning process.
