Admission Requirements, Including Language Policy and Registration Procedures
Local Students
Admission requirements and registration procedures at Istanbul Atlas University are conducted in accordance with the Higher Education Law and the regulations determined by the Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK). For programs taught in English, English language proficiency is required. Therefore, students who pass the English Proficiency Exam conducted at the beginning of the academic year may directly start their departmental studies without attending the preparatory English program.
International Students (degree seeking students)
Universities in Türkiye have the right to select and admit international students. Admission criteria must be approved by the Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
For detailed information:
https://international.atlas.edu.tr/en/
For programs where the medium of instruction is Turkish, a B2 level Turkish Proficiency Certificate is required. Students who do not have this certificate are required to attend Turkish language courses.
International applicants may apply to graduate programs at the master’s level. Applications to graduate programs are administered by the Graduate Education Institute.
International Students (credit mobility)
Students applying within the scope of mobility programs must come from universities that have an inter-institutional agreement with Istanbul Atlas University. Incoming credit mobility students may enroll in courses offered at Atlas University and study for one or two semesters.
Foreign language proficiency requirements are specified in the Inter-Institutional Agreements. The application procedures for mobility students are carried out by the Erasmus+ Coordination Office.
Regulations regarding the recognition of credit mobility and prior learning (formal and non-formal education)
The recognition of credits earned by outgoing students is ensured automatically and in full, as previously agreed in the Learning Agreement (and any amendments, if applicable) and documented in the Transcript of Records. The Transcript of Records constitutes a part of the Recognition Document. Courses, credits, and grades included in the Transcript of Records issued by the host institution are recognized at ATLAS with their corresponding credits and grades.
The Recognition Document is prepared by the academic coordinator. The document approved by the department is then finalized by the Faculty Administrative Board. In the final stage, the recognition data are transferred to the student information system without delay. These recognized studies count toward the student’s degree without requiring any additional coursework or assessment and are traceable in both the student’s Transcript of Records and Diploma Supplement.
The same procedure applies to students benefiting from traineeship mobility. Upon completion of the traineeship period, a Recognition Document is prepared for the student, and the traineeship is reflected both in the Transcript of Records and the Diploma Supplement.
For incoming students, the Transcript of Records is sent to the home institution within five weeks after the completion of the mobility period at the latest.
Learning Based on Certification or Experience
Recognition of learning based on certification or professional experience is still at an early stage in Turkish higher education institutions. At Istanbul Atlas University, an English proficiency exemption exam is organized at the beginning of each academic year. Students who achieve a passing score in this exam may directly start their academic programs without attending the preparatory English program.
ECTS Credit Allocation Policy (Institutional Credit Framework)
All courses offered in the departments at ATLAS have been assigned ECTS credits. The “ECTS Key Features” and the “ECTS Users’ Guide” published in 2015 have been followed as the main guidelines for this allocation process.
A total of 60 ECTS credits has been allocated to one academic year by taking into consideration the workload required to achieve the intended learning outcomes. First, university-wide common courses (“Atatürk’s Principles and History of Turkish Revolution” and “Turkish Language”) were assigned credits. Subsequently, faculty-level and department-level courses were also credited.
The allocation of credits to courses was carried out by calculating the workload required to achieve the expected learning outcomes. Courses have been designed with various educational activities, and the assessment methods and evaluation criteria of the courses have been diversified.
The updated course catalog is published on the ATLAS website:

Academic Consultation
Undergraduate/Associate Degrees
Our University assigns an academic advisor to all newly enrolled students to assist them with all matters related to their education. Advisors are appointed by the relevant program chair from among the program’s faculty members, lecturers, or research assistants who have completed their doctoral degrees. The academic advisor informs students about the course selection process, including summer school registration, at the beginning of each semester. By evaluating the student’s academic status together with the student, the advisor oversees and approves the course registration process for the courses that the student is required to take.
In addition, the advisor guides students on issues such as adaptation to university life, professional development, career planning, and related matters, while monitoring their academic progress throughout their studies. Furthermore, academic advisors allocate at least two hours per week exclusively as “Student Consultation Hours”, announce these hours to students, and provide face-to-face consultation regarding students’ academic concerns.
Guidance and Psychological Counseling
İstanbul Atlas University provides free psychological counseling services to its students through its medico-social services unit. Individual counseling sessions with students are conducted through an appointment system. Career Planning Unit (Atlas Career Center)
Established to support our students in their career planning, the Career Center provides mentoring support throughout the entire process, from determining students’ career goals from the very first day to monitoring their progress and ultimately helping them achieve these goals.
In addition, students can access various internship and job opportunities through the information resources of our center.
