Course Objectives:

In line with the basic concepts and theories of surgical nursing, the aim is to provide knowledge, skills and behavior in determining the care needs of the surgical patient and their family with a holistic approach before, during and after the surgical intervention, making a nursing diagnosis, planning appropriate nursing interventions, implementing them and evaluating their results. To provide students with the knowledge, skills and behavior to communicate effectively with the patient and their family as well as other health professionals.

Course Content:

This course includes advanced knowledge and practices about pre-, intra- and post-operative nursing care for surgical patients, current approaches to the wound healing process and treatment/care, post-operative acute pain management, surgical infections and their precautions, treatment/care principles and surgical patient nutrition.

1) Analyzes and evaluates safe and effective patient care prior to surgical intervention. Demonstrates application skills.

1) Evaluates, analyzes and demonstrates the ability to apply surgical nursing practices before, during and after surgical intervention within the scope of contemporary theoretical knowledge.
2) Understands the factors affecting nursing care and recovery after surgery.
3) Knows wound and burn care, initiatives and innovations.
4) Pain diagnosis and care regarding effective pain control in the surgical patient Knows his/her initiatives and shows the ability to implement them.
5) Surgical diseases that require system-specific surgical intervention and patient knows how to care.
6) Nursing appropriate to the preparation and care characteristics of the organ transplant patient defines maintenance.
