Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: To give students the knowledge and skills to evaluate the newborn and to perform family-centered care.
Course Content: "In this course, the characteristics of healthy and risky newborns, basic care practices, common problems in newborns, system-specific diseases of the newborn, parent-infant interaction and neonatal discharge are covered."

Theoretical - Conceptual
1) Knows the concepts of newborn health.
2) Turkey and explain the health condition of the newborn in the world.
3) It diagnoses healthy and sick newborns.
4) Determines the characteristics of the newborn and deviations from health and performs the care specific to the newborn.
5) Carries out the care of the newborn by evaluating the growth-development and deviations from growth-development.
6) Knows the respiratory system diseases seen in newborns and performs their care.
7) Knows the digestive system and metabolic diseases seen in newborns and performs their care.
8) Knows congenital heart diseases in newborns and performs their care.
9) Evaluates vital signs in newborns.
10) Knows neonatal-specific care practices, makes physical measurements and drug applications.

1) Know the nutritional status of the newborn and diagnose and care for nutritional disorders
2) Evaluates the fluid-electrolyte and acid-base balance of the newborn and provides care.

1) Have the theoretical knowledge and skills to fulfill their roles and responsibilities related to the midwifery discipline.
2) Have the ability to identify, define, decide, problem-solve, problem-solving, critical thinking, and leadership skills in midwifery practice and selects and applies appropriate analysis and intervention approaches.
3) Have the ability to understand, interpret, and solve problems related to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care of women and newborns with a holistic perspective and contemporary methods.
4) To have strong communication and effective working skills both within and between disciplines individually.
5) Takes at least two out-of-field courses in the education program.
6) Have the ability to develop, select, and use up-to-date and functional tools related to the midwifery profession, as well as the ability to use information technologies effectively.
7) Have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in Turkish and knows at least one foreign language.
8) Takes part in scientific and social projects in individual and professional development, follows developments in science and technology, and adopts lifelong learning and continuous development as a principle.
