Course Objectives:

To enable students to learn the basics of basic concepts, theories, principles, methods and techniques in midwifery and to enable them to comprehend the knowledge and skills that will provide the basis for midwifery care on the basis of a holistic approach to women, children, families and society towards basic human needs.

Course Content:

This course covers the care process, functional health patterns model, safe pattern (protection from infections, asepsis, antisepsis, disinfection, sterilization concepts and practices, hygiene, evaluation of vital signs, drug and fluid administration) role-relationship pattern (importance and methods of effective communication, effects of being sick and hospitalization, patient admission and discharge principles) nutritional pattern (nutrition principles, feeding routes, protection of skin and mucosal integrity, prevention and care of bedsores), excretory pattern (urinary catheterization, enema), activity-exercise pattern (body mechanics, patient positions, ambulation, transport, respiratory support practices), comfort pattern (supporting sleep and rest, pain and coping), stress and coping, self-concept, and adaptation to body image in pregnant women.

1) Can explain the historical development process, sociological characteristics and deontology of the midwifery profession.
2) Explains the concept of self-care, the importance of self-care and can make applications that will improve self-care in individuals.
3) Explains the operation of patient admission and discharge processes
4) Knows the care process steps, basic human needs and models of functional health patterns, the effects of illness and hospitalization on individuals and families, effective communication methods, the importance of patient safety and its applications.
5) Gains the basic skills to meet the functional health needs of the patient.
6) Performs drug applications, gavage feeding, asepsis, antisepsis, disinfection, sterilization applications, evaluation of vital signs, enema, urinary catheterization, oxygen administration, body mechanics, positioning the patient, standing up, transferring.
