Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: To have knowledge about stem cell biology and plasticity. To learn main cell purification techniques, basic information and mechanisms.
Course Content: Definitions of stem cells, proliferation of differentiated cells, hematopoietic stem cells, differentiated cell types, purification techniques and their use in medicine. Mesenchymal stem cells, differentiated cell types, purification techniques and their use in medicine. Stem cell biology and plasticity. Basic stem cell techniques [Immunomagnetic ( Magnetic), Immunodensity (Density-based) Methods, Positive selection, Negative selection] and aseptic conditions. Flow cytometry method and evaluation principles. Stem cell usage areas.

1) Learns the definition, general properties and types of stem cells.
2) Learns the factors (markers) that determine the plasticity of stem cells. Learns the molecular mechanisms of cellular events that are effective in self-renewal, proliferation, differentiation, reprogramming and aging of stem cells.
3) Knows stem cell types, sources, properties and applications in regenerative medicine. Learns different types of specialized stem cell niches that host tissue/organ stem cells.
4) Learns laboratory techniques (isolation, characterization, differentiation and molecular techniques, microscopic analysis) used in stem cell studies. Learns the applications of stem cells in tissue engineering.

1) Explain the basic structure, development and normal functioning of the human body at the level of molecules, cells, tissues, organs and systems.
2) Questions the abnormal structure and functioning of the human body, explains it with information based on qualified scientific research, evaluates the causes of diseases by considering the interaction with the individual and his environment.
