Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: The aim is to ensure that the student learns intercultural disease and health models and becomes able to discuss the integration of cultural competence into health education and practice.
Course Content: Culture of health and disease, the concept of culture, the importance and place of culture in health, world cultures, cultural behaviors in health, transcultural health and midwifery models, the relationship between patient relatives and healthcare personnel in different cultures, global health problems, national and international health policies, the concept of intercultural midwifery and transcultural approaches in education, intercultural care approach.

Theoretical - Conceptual
1) Knows the concept of culture and its effects on health.
2) Gains information about nutrition programs and practices related to pregnant-breastfeeding, child and adolescent periods in Turkey and the World and can develop suggestions.
3) Learns the issues to be considered in nutrition education of pregnant and lactating women, newborns, babies, pre-school, school age children and adolescents.
4) Gains information about the importance and sources of energy and macronutrients and micronutrients in this period.
5) Learns about the composition and benefits of breast milk and contributes to its promotion.
6) Learns about the types, contents and properties of formulas used in infancy.

1) Knows the health consequences of traditional practices and reflects them into practice.
2) Understands gender, ethnic, and generational differences and provides appropriate care.

2) Have the ability to identify, define, decide, problem-solve, problem-solving, critical thinking, and leadership skills in midwifery practice and selects and applies appropriate analysis and intervention approaches.
3) Have the ability to understand, interpret, and solve problems related to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care of women and newborns with a holistic perspective and contemporary methods.
4) To have strong communication and effective working skills both within and between disciplines individually.
5) Takes at least two out-of-field courses in the education program.
6) Have the ability to develop, select, and use up-to-date and functional tools related to the midwifery profession, as well as the ability to use information technologies effectively.
7) Have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in Turkish and knows at least one foreign language.
