Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: In this course, the intracellular signal transduction mechanisms, different types of receptors and functional properties of intracellular signaling pathways (G proteins, effector enzymes, ion channels, intracellular calcium, phospholipases and eicosanoids, protein kinases, protein phosphorylation, etc.), mechanisms that mediate the regulation of target cell responses, physiological functions of cell signaling (apoptosis, cell cycle regulation, gene transcription) and clinical significance (cancer, cardiovascular disease, learning and memory, immune respons) of signal transduction issues is intended to give an overview and understanding.
Course Content: 1. Mechanisms of signal transduction 2. Molecules involved in signal transduction • G proteins • Effector enzymes • Ion channels • Intracellular calcium • Phospholipases and eicosanoids • Protein kinases and protein phosphorylation 3. Cell surface receptors 4. Cell surface receptors for intracellular signal transduction • Type of receptors • Type of ligand molecules • Ion channels and neurotransmitters • Mechanisms of ion pump 5. Functional properties of signaling pathways 6. Cytoplasmic signaling pathways • Cytoplasmic secondary messengers • Function of secondary messengers in transduction pathways • cAMP and cGMP • Function of calcium-calmodulin in cell 7. Mechanisms for regulation of target cell responses 8.Signaling mechanisms controlling cell proliferation and differentiation • Ras signaling pathway • ERK / MAP kinases pathway 9.Signal transduction and physiological properties • Aging and telomerase • Apoptosis • Proteolytic mechanisms 10.Clinical importance of signal transduction • Cancer • Cardiovascular diseases • Learning and memory • Immun responses
