Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is to illustrate mechanisms by which prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells regulate gene expression
Course Content: Introduction, methods for studying transcriptional control, basics of prokaryotic transcriptional control, structure of promotor and RNA polymerase, operons:Lac and Trp operons, activation and repression mechanisms in prokaryotes, termination of transcription and translation in prokaryotes, eukaryotik transcriptional control: the eukaryotic promoter and assembly of the basal preinitiation complex, modulation of the activity of transcriptional activator proteins (phosphorylation, de novo synthesis , localisation), posttranscriptional control: alternative splicing, regulation of RNA transport and stability, control in translation, the role of chromatin as a repressor of transcription, post genomic studies in control of gene expression,importance of control in tissue spesific, developmental, stress dependent gene expression and in diseases including cancer.
