Course Objectives: | This course aims to educate students on various genetic and molecular changes normal cells undergo during transformation into malignant cancer cells. |
Course Content: | Introduction to cancer biology; DNA structure and stability: mutations versus repair; Regulation of gene expression; Growth factor signaling and oncogenes; The cell cycle; Growth inhibition and tumor suppressor genes; Apoptosis; Stem cells and differentiation; Metastasis; The immune system, infections, and inflammation; Nutrients, hormones, and gene interactions; The cancer industry: drug development, pharmacogenomics, and clinical trial design; Cancer in the future |
