Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: Genetics is an important topic in psychology, as it can help us understand how traits and behaviors are inherited and passed down through generations.
Course Content: A basic genetics course in psychology might cover topics such as the following:

Introduction to genetics: This would cover the basic concepts of genetics, including DNA, genes, chromosomes, and genetic variation.

Inheritance patterns: This would cover the different ways in which traits are inherited, including dominant and recessive inheritance, X-linked inheritance, and polygenic inheritance.

Genetic disorders: This would cover the different types of genetic disorders, including chromosomal disorders, single gene disorders, and multifactorial disorders.

Behavioral genetics: This would cover the role of genetics in influencing behaviors, including personality traits, intelligence, and mental disorders.

Epigenetics: This would cover the study of changes in gene expression that do not involve changes to the underlying DNA sequence.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
Learning Outcomes
1 - Knowledge
Theoretical - Conceptual
1) A better understanding of how genetics influences behavior: Students would gain an understanding of the role of genetics in determining personality traits, cognitive abilities, and mental health disorders.
2 - Skills
Cognitive - Practical
1) Improved critical thinking skills: Students would learn to analyze and evaluate research in genetics and psychology, and to think critically about the implications of genetic research.
3 - Competences
Communication and Social Competence
Learning Competence
1) Preparation for advanced coursework: A basic genetics course in psychology would provide a foundation for more advanced coursework in genetics, neuroscience, or other areas of psychology.
Field Specific Competence
1) Practical applications: Students would learn about the practical applications of genetics in fields such as medicine, forensics, and agriculture, as well as the ethical issues associated with genetic research and genetic testing.
Competence to Work Independently and Take Responsibility
