Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: The aim of this course is; To have knowledge about eye diseases that may be encountered in optician practice and to make the cooperation between ophthalmologist and optician easier in terms of terminology.
Course Content: History taking and basic examination methods in eye diseases; Diseases of the eye's auxiliary organs such as eyelids, eyelashes, lacrimal glands; Diseases of parts of the sclera layer such as lens, cornea, conjunctiva; Uveitis; Retinal layer diseases; Glaucoma; Orbital injuries and diseases of the orbit; Eye diseases due to opric nerve damage; Strabismus; Eye diseases in pediatric cases; Emergency situations requiring eye intervention; Common causes of blindness and the effects of ultraviolet rays on eye health.

Theoretical - Conceptual
1) Has knowledge about the basic examination methods of the eye and knows how to take the anamnesis of the patient who comes with a complaint in the eye.
2) Knows the diseases of the sclera, uvea and retina, the signs and symptoms of these diseases and their basic treatment and care.
3) Knows about glaucoma, knows the necessary signs to guide early diagnosis.
4) Knows the injuries and diseases in the orbit and recognizes their symptoms.
5) Knows the damage and diseases of the optic nerve, which is the nerve of the eye.
6) Knows eye symptoms seen in strabismus and systemic diseases. Has information about treatment and care.
7) Has information about eye diseases seen in pediatric cases and the treatment and care of these diseases.
8) Knows the common causes of blindness and takes the necessary precautions to prevent them. Knows how ultraviolet rays affect the eyes and takes protective measures.

11) It has sufficient infrastructure in terms of quality in health, brand marketing target, optician business.
12) Has sufficient awareness of individual and public health, environmental protection and occupational safety.
13) As an optician, she/he knows the laws, regulations, legislation and professional ethical rules related to her/his duties, rights and responsibilities and acts in accordance with these rules.
14) Carries out a given task independently by using the basic knowledge he/she has in his/her field.
