Course Objectives:

The aim of this course is to teach the anatomical structures of the eye and the physiology of vision with the basic knowledge of general anatomy.

Course Content:

Introduction to the course; General systems anatomy and medical terminological information; Orbital anatomy and eye cavities; Functional auxiliary organs in the eye; Muscles, blood vessels and nerves of the eye; Detailed description of the sclera, uvea and retina layers of the eye and functional knowledge of the elements contained in these layers; Introduction to visual physiology and refraction of light in the eye; Cranial nerves involved in vision and neural pathways of vision; Photochemistry of Vision; The location of visual fields in the brain, the formation of visual perception; Adaptation mechanisms in vision; Color vision mechanisms and extraocular mechanisms effective in vision; Vision defects-myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

1) Knows the general anatomy of the orbit and the cavities of the eye.
2) Recognizes the auxiliary organs in the eye and knows their functions. Recognizes the vessels, nerves and muscles of the eye.
3) Recognizes the layers of the eye, sclera, uvea and retina. Has information about the elements of these and knows and describes their functions.
4) Knows where the light falls on the eye and its breaking points.
5) Knows and tells the cranial nerves responsible for vision, neural visual pathways and the representations of vision in the brain.
6) Knows and describes the photochemical properties of vision in the retina.
7) Has knowledge about adaptation in vision, color vision and extraocular mechanisms in vision.
8) Knows and describes the mechanisms of vision defects.

13) As an optician, she/he knows the laws, regulations, legislation and professional ethical rules related to her/his duties, rights and responsibilities and acts in accordance with these rules.
14) Carries out a given task independently by using the basic knowledge he/she has in his/her field.
