Exam Regulations & Assessment & Grading

The assessment and evaluation processes in the master`s and doctoral programs conducted within the Atlas University Graduate Education Institute are carried out according to the provisions of the Istanbul Atlas University Graduate Education, Teaching and Examination Regulations.

Graduate programs require a 70% attendance rate for theoretical courses and an 80% attendance rate for practical courses. Students who do not meet the attendance requirement are considered absent and fail the relevant course.

In graduate programs, students` academic performance is evaluated based on letter grades and grade point averages. Course grades are converted from a 100-point system to letter grades.

Master`s students must obtain at least a C+ (2.50) grade to pass a course, while doctoral students must obtain at least a B- (2.75) grade. In this context, students who achieve a raw grade of 65 or higher in master`s programs and 70 or higher in doctoral programs are considered to have successfully completed the course.

The cumulative grade point average (GPA) must be at least 2.50 for master`s programs and at least 3.00 for doctoral programs. Students who cannot meet these conditions are required to retake courses in accordance with the relevant legislation.

In doctoral programs, students take the doctoral qualifying exam after completing the coursework. The qualifying exam consists of two parts: written and oral. Students who fail a section or sections are given the right to retake the exam in the following semester. Students who fail this exam are dismissed from the doctoral program.

Students who successfully complete the doctoral qualifying exam defend their thesis proposals before the thesis monitoring committee. After the thesis proposal is accepted, students are subject to thesis monitoring evaluation at least twice a year.

Master`s and doctoral theses are reviewed using plagiarism detection software before the defense exam. If plagiarism is detected, the relevant legislation is applied.

For doctoral students to be eligible to take the thesis defense exam, they must have published or had accepted for publication at least one scientific article related to their thesis topic or field of study, with themselves as the first author, in a journal included in an international database.

Students who cheat, plagiarize, or engage in behavior contrary to the principles of academic integrity during exams will be subject to the relevant legislation and disciplinary provisions.
