Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: This course aims to discuss the historical development of humor and satire in Classical Turkish Literature, prominent poets and writers, and humorous and satirical elements used in works. Students will learn the effects of humor and satire on society and how literary tradition is shaped.
Course Content: This course deals with the historical development of humor and satire in Classical Turkish Literature, its place in literary genres and its important representatives. The ways in which humorous genres such as satire, hezl, latife are used in Divan literature, the sense of humor in the Ottoman society and the criticisms made by poets through satire will be examined. Within the scope of the course, the works of important poets such as Nef'î, Nedim, Nabi, Şeyh Galip will be analyzed; Humorous elements based on folk culture such as meddah stories, Karagöz and Hacivat will be evaluated. The effects of humor and satire on literature, politics and social life in Ottoman society will be discussed and their connections with today's literature will be established.

1) Students who successfully complete this course: 1. Understands the Conceptual Framework of Humor and Satire: Understands the place and social function of humor and satire in literature. Analyzes how humor and satire were perceived and used in Ottoman society.
2) 2. Recognize the Types of Humor and Satire in Classical Turkish Literature: Defines humorous genres such as hijviyye, hezl, latife. Explains the development of humor and satire in Divan literature in the historical process.
3) 3. Recognizes Important Satire and Humor Poets and Their Works: Evaluates the satire and humor of poets such as Nef'î, Nedim, Nabi, Şeyh Galip. Interprets important satirical works and their effects on Ottoman culture.
4) 4. Humorous and Satire Styles Solutions: Explains how irony, allusion and sarcasm used in Divan poems are used. Determines how poets use humorous elements in terms of language and style.
5) 5. Evaluates Humorous and Satirical Texts from a Critical Perspective: Discusses the place of humorous works in the Ottoman period within the political, social and cultural structure of the period. Analyzes criticized issues through satire and humor.
6) 6. Explains the Humorous Culture and Social Criticism of the Ottoman Period: Meddah stories recognize the satirical aspect of traditional narratives such as Karagöz and Hacivat. Explains with examples how humor is used as a tool of criticism.
7) 7. Evaluates the Effects of Classical Humor and Satire on Today's Literature: Discusses the effects of the humorous legacy of classical literature on modern literature, cartoons, theater and media. Analyzes the connections between the traditional sense of humor and today's humor culture.
