Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: The main purpose of this course is to provide students with a general introduction to the concepts of structure and construction, and to help them understand how force, moment and similar concepts that form the basis of structural elements are integrated and related at the building and furniture scale. The course aims to teach students the evolution of structure throughout architectural history and how this information is applied in design processes. At the same time, the definition and functions of critical components such as foundation, wall, roof and floor, which are basic structural elements, will be discussed in detail and the roles of these structural elements in design and application will be emphasized. In this way, students will develop both their theoretical knowledge and practical application skills by understanding structural thinking in depth.
Course Content: This course aims to teach the fundamentals of structural thinking by introducing students to the concepts of structure and construction. Within the scope of the course, the movement of structures, the forces acting on them, deformations in the context of structures and furniture, and the contributions of these effects to the design processes are discussed. Additionally, load analysis with vectors and forces, the relationship between the physical and natural environment and structures, the history of structure and various contemporary structural systems are examined in detail. The course also focuses on the definition, functions and design principles of the basic structural elements of foundations, walls, floors and roofs, enabling students to apply this knowledge to practical design projects.
