Course Objectives: | This course focuses on One Health, an approach that considers the interconnectedness of humans, animals, and the environment. Using a multidisciplinary approach, students will explore the fundamental principles of One Health, examining how microorganisms can impact the health of humans, animals, and plants through the transmission of zoonotic diseases and environmental pathogens. In addition, the course will delve into larger-scale issues, including human-animal welfare, agriculture, migration, climate change, and the built environment. Through this course, students will develop skills in effectively communicating complex health issues within a One Health framework through writing, visualizing, articulating, and presenting. |
Course Content: | The health and well-being of humans are dependent on the overall health of the environment, animals, and the entire ecosystem that supports human life. One Health. This course will explore One Health, an approach that acknowledges the interconnections between these factors. It will examine zoonotic diseases, which can be transmitted from animals to humans, and how One Health can address the challenges and opportunities associated with these diseases. Through a multi-sectoral approach and collaborations, the course will also investigate the importance of cultural competency in addressing public health issues globally, including the role of communities in One Health efforts. |
