Course Objectives: | In this course, we are going to: • Critically evaluate family-owned SMEs characteristics, behaviour and motivations and arrive at informed conclusions related to current and proposed international business futures. • Assess the nature of the business environment as it affects small and medium businesses and evaluate business opportunities and threats. • Evaluate the relevance of creativity and innovation to family-owned SMEs and to the development of business opportunities. • Evaluate the importance of the contribution of management and leadership to the success of SMEs. |
Course Content: | The importance of SMEs is undisputed: they constitute the majority of businesses in the global markets, contribute to economic growth and prosperity on a national level, and are key drivers of employment and innovation. This course will consider the management of these essential contributors to global and national economies. The course is focused on key features and key processes of strategic management of small and medium enterprises. The course also focuses on the understanding of key characteristics of SMEs and of family-run and family-owned small and medium firms and the factors and on the decisions impacting over time their sustainable competitive advantage. |
