Course Objectives: The course aims to acquaint students with song translation - one of the most challenging types of audio-visual translation - to prepare them for the predictable and the unpredictable as translators and/or translation studies researchers.
Course Content: Each discussion will be followed by exercises to furnish students with hands-on experience in translation practice.

Program Outcomes
1) Possesses sufficient background in the field by mastering the theoretical, conceptual, and practical knowledge and ethical values required by the field of Translation Studies, and examines, interprets, and utilizes this knowledge with scientific methods
2) Have knowledge of foreign languages ​​at the European Language Portfolio C1 General Level; Knows English and Turkish languages ​​at a level that can be used in different communication situations by mastering the skills of oral communication and/or effective written communication with proper pronunciation and diction.
3) Takes responsibility, plans and works effectively individually and/or as a team member within the context of the translation project.
4) Effectively uses information and communication technologies along with the knowledge, skills, modern techniques and tools required for presentation at the level required by the field of translation.
5) Gains knowledge about the observable linguistic features of the source and target languages ​​from past to present, understands, analyzes and uses their grammatical, lexical, semantic and textual structures.
6) In addition to the program language, they master the basic and expert linguistic and cultural knowledge and differences of the second foreign language they have learned up to the European Language Portfolio B2 General Level.
7) With a lifelong learning mindset, keeps up with current developments in the field and related domains, accesses information and continuously renews oneself. Possesses critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and evaluation skills.
8) Knows in detail the characteristics of English culture and history, as well as the reflection of political, economic, cultural and social events on English Literature, its dominant genres and important works.
9) Gains knowledge and terminology related to fields and text types such as literature, economics, social sciences, politics, natural sciences, arts, technology, technical fields, law, media, medicine, etc. Understands and analyzes written and spoken texts produced in languages A, B, and C, and performs translations into language A or B, using language that is appropriate to the function and purpose of the text. Acquires knowledge and terminology pertaining to text types and fields such as literature, economics, social sciences, politics, natural sciences, arts, technology, technical domains, law, media, medicine, etc.; comprehends and analyzes written and oral texts produced in languages A, B, and C; and performs translations into language A or B using language appropriate to their functions and purposes.
10) They receive theoretical, ethical and practical training from beginner to advanced level in the fields of interpreting such as consecutive interpreting, simultaneous interpreting, conference interpreting and community interpreting, and experience them in a classroom environment.
11) Along with the ability to detect, define, formulate and solve problems that may be encountered in oral translation, the student will have the ability to obtain and use modern techniques, tools and equipment required for the application of his/her profession in different fields.
12) Obtains information about all stages of translation projects such as planning, research and development, preparation, quality control, process monitoring and management; Understands the relationship between theory and practice, transfers his knowledge to applications and completes the project.
13) The preliminary stages of a comprehensive research include preliminary drafting, source access and screening, data collection and assembly; Analyzing and synthesizing the research topic based on supporting information and resources and writing the research report; Learns the relevant bibliography, index and appendix presentation.
14) Have the ability to effectively use the information and communication technologies used in the sector, the necessary contemporary techniques and tools used in translation processes, such as computer-aided translation, translation programs, dictionaries, terminology databases, online resources, spelling and grammar checking, audio, video, visual editing and verbal translation technologies, in order to achieve quality translation.
