Dersin Amaç ve İçeriği

Course Objectives: This course aims to convey the basic concepts used in the field of health psychology. Health-threatening behaviors (such as smoking, malnutrition, excessive alcohol consumption), the effects of stress on the disease, ways of adapting to chronic diseases and ways of coping with deadly diseases will be examined through research in the field of health psychology.
Course Content: Within the scope of this course, students will be introduced to health behaviors, perception and adaptation to illness, the relationship between stress and illness, adaptation to chronic, progressive and fatal diseases, and research methods used in health psychology, which are the main study subjects of health psychology.

1) The student will be able to discuss the proven findings on the relationship between stress and illness.
2) The student will be able to compare the effects of pain on human psychology, different theories of pain and methods of coping with pain.
3) The student will be able to explain the causes of health-threatening behaviors such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and sleep disorders and their negative effects on health.
4) Student will be able to discuss ways of coping with chronic, progressive or fatal diseases.
