Course Objectives: | Genetics is an important topic in psychology, as it can help us understand how traits and behaviors are inherited and passed down through generations. |
Course Content: | A basic genetics course in psychology might cover topics such as the following: Introduction to genetics: This would cover the basic concepts of genetics, including DNA, genes, chromosomes, and genetic variation. Inheritance patterns: This would cover the different ways in which traits are inherited, including dominant and recessive inheritance, X-linked inheritance, and polygenic inheritance. Genetic disorders: This would cover the different types of genetic disorders, including chromosomal disorders, single gene disorders, and multifactorial disorders. Behavioral genetics: This would cover the role of genetics in influencing behaviors, including personality traits, intelligence, and mental disorders. Epigenetics: This would cover the study of changes in gene expression that do not involve changes to the underlying DNA sequence. |
