Course Objectives: | The aim of this course is to give general information to the student about political psychology, which is the intersection of political science and social psychology, and to help students better understand the political world. This course introduces old and new theories and methods used in the discipline of political psychology, helping to understand what individuals think and how they feel about politics. |
Course Content: | This course is taught with an interdisciplinary approach in order to understand the thoughts and behaviors of individuals and elites about politics. The main aim of the course is to give general information to the student about political psychology, which is the intersection of political science and social psychology, and to help the student try to make a better sense of the political world. Some of the topics to be covered in this process are as follows: Understanding the behavior of citizens who have the right to vote today is among the most important goals of political science. How does a person reach a voting decision? What can affect the behavior of the individual in the process before voting? Which element is more effective, why? Beyond voting, questions such as the essence of social movements, the influence of the media on the political attitudes and behaviors of the individual, the basis and resolution of intergroup conflict are among the topics to be covered in this course. In this context, understanding the political behavior of the individual not only interprets the elections, which is an important part of the democratic process, but also provides explanations on how the society can act on political issues. The aim of this course is to discuss and examine these and similar issues from the perspective of political psychology. |
